Reducing Complexity, Increasing Revenue and Access

IOIN Solutions Pty Ltd was commissioned by the University of Western Australia to provide a “proof of Concept “ for automated carpark entry, Integrating to the EasyPark parking APP &
system that is currently utilised across the site. The Proof of concept included the installation of Genetec SharpV LPR cameras to entry and exit points of the carpark and generated software displays showing live occupancy of the carpark. Carpark managers were introduced to the IOIN parking platform and given full access. The success of this trial has led to a first order being given to integrate the system on to the University Network and complete a nominated carpark in full with LPR Cameras, Signage and Sensors in Loading bays, Reserved bays and special purpose bays.

Challenges

The main challenges here were about adopting all the different notations of permit systems, maximum charges, free time allocation, personnel adopting the EasyPark camera park functionality and the correct camera positioning to capture vehicle plates accurately

How We Managed This

Thorough testing of the LPR capture was carried out over several days and adjustments made to compensate for awkward lighting arrangements. (Shadows) The use of our 24/7 control room was instrumental early in the trial ensuring that any false plate readings were captured and corrected immediately. Great communication with the client proved instrumental in ensuring the trial was a success – leading to a permanent solution being installed. This permanent installation is still in progress at the time of writing this case study.

The Outcomes & The Future

A full review of all the UWA carparks (41 in total) has subsequently been carried out with a view to a progressive rollout of the technology. The on-ground sensors will enable the
monitoring of special purpose bays and loading zones for deliveries exceeding time allowances. LED Signage will be installed to provide visibility of car bays available across the site. Further integration to Student portals are being discussed along with parking consolidation across multiple carparks and messaging to enforcement officers.
